Billy’s 1min Breakdown

Here are some screen shots of Billy’s 1 Minute film. Through out the whole comp i must have clocked over 20 hours of work trying to get this done. Finally it is almost complete, all that is left to do is to do the credits. I have added the different colours of the buildings and added a typography type overlay to the video, this was done by Billy. This is the result

Helping Lauren

As part of our brief we had to help at least three people. So Lauren needed help to create snow in one of her shots, I used Adobe After Effects and a plug in called “CC Snow”. This created a snow like effect on the movie, I then used a adjustment Layer to mask out the parts that where not needed. Nothing really hard about this just fun to do, here are some screen shots

Helping Billy

So today I help Billy do his Film/Animation, it was fun but really hard at the same time trying to sync with the music.I will keep updating this post with Screen shots. I learned a lot today with music, I like music but never been a fan of making making music in logic etc. This experience helped me listen to the beats and learn a lot about music. The down side to it is because I have to listen to the music first then sync it with After Effects it takes a while. I also can’t Listen to the music before I render it that is down to After Effects not anything I can do about that.

Helping people.

So far i have helped two people with their work. I helped Steve with his editing and capturing the footage. This was a big experience for me because i have used final cut pro before but rarely have i captured a tape.  Now i consider myself a pro at it.  When capturing the footage we did struggle because the HD tape capture was not working for us. I don’t know what we where doing wrong but it did take us about 20 minutes to figure it out. We did fix it in the end and we started editing Steve’s film.

When it came to help Lauren it was a lot easier because we already knew how to capture the footage. After we captured the footage Lauren worked on the edit and I worked on her special effects in Adobe After effects. She originally wanted it to rain but with the English weather being as it is, it snowed so she quickly changed it to snow.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 2010 Review

A Nightmare On Elm Street (18)

“You can’t hurt me. This is my world. And you can’t ever leave.”

Plot

Freddie Krueger is back to haunt the dreams of the young adults of Elm Street claiming revenge for their parents killing him years before. Turning death into reality.

REVIEW

The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise is back but sadly not with the original Krueger. Robert Englund has given the reins over Watchmen’s Rorschach, Jackie Earle Haley in the most anticipated film of the year. We also see Twilight Star Kellen Lutz playing broody Dean Russel. Michael Bay Produced this new nightmare, he is know for remaking some of the classic Horror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and friday the 13th also side Director Samuel Bayer who is most known for doing amazing music videos for Rock superstars Nirvana, My Chemical Romance and Green Day. Samuel Bayer and Michael Bay bring the gore back to Elm Street within the first 5 minutes of the movie, showing the death of a high school student. People may think that this is a remake of the original 1984 nightmare but they are mistaken. Freddie is back in dreams of his forgotten victims trying to make them believe that he is innocent with some success. If you are in to Horrors and The Nightmare frinchise this is a must see film well worth the money.

Verdict.

This film is not one to miss, if you are a Horror fan then you will love Jackie Earle Haley’s take on Freddie Krueger

Special Effects in Films (Jurassic Park)

For the one minute film brief we had to incorporate special effects. I have chosen quite a complicated special effect so in my research i wanted to look at the the best special effects of all time. Nothing like Avatar but more ground special effects. through the research i found a site that list the top 50 special effect films of all time, from Aliens to Hannibal. The top special effect shot is a scene from Jurassic Park when the T-Rex walks past the car light illuminating the muscular system of the T-Rex. This subtle effect sells the entire shot, the camera judder syncing with the foot steps also sells the shot. This is one of my all time favorite films. This shot is one of my favorites

Film Treatment for 1Minute Film

Film Treatment, 1 Minute Short Title “Unknown”

Stepping out of the shadows of an underground Arm Wrestle competition is one of the strongest men in the world. The opponent a skinny weak Geek, as they walk up to the table to start the tournament they are facing each over. Once they sit at the table the tournament begins, the strong man lifts up his arm and reviles a huge defined arm. The Geek does the same but he reviles a skinny and white arm. As they begin to arm wrestle you can see that the Geek is struggling to keep his arm straight. Whereas the strong man finds it easy, when the match is almost over and the geek is defeated. Something happens, his heart beat is heard and the camera zooms in to his arm. the blood cells can be seen, they turn from red to green and shoot up his arm into his eye. The eye then begins to turn green like the hulk. When the camera zooms out you see the skinny nerd although still looks skinny he throughs the strong man across the room.

Finished the Blood Cell Video Effect

After four hours of trying to make it look good and following the Video Copilot tutorial to the letter i finally finished the effect. Although it will only be on screen for a couple of seconds it is well worth it. After shooting the film in the edit i will put it in the comp, I also have to figure out a way to make the eyes explode. Another thing that held me back was that I needed Trapcode Particular, which is an $399 product. I downloaded the trail and when i rendered it out it didn’t have the red X. So it was all good XD.

Stepping Out of The Shadows

One of the techniques I want to use in my one minute film is a term called “Stepping Out of The Shadows”. As the term says it is when the character steps out of the shadows, this came from one of Steven Spielberg film where the “hero” steps out of the shadows. I see it more as an “Anti-Hero” moment showing the shadow across the face creating a two face effects.

1 Minute Film Idea Apporved.

Following the meeting with Mike, he has approved my idea for the 1 minute short film. I will be uploading the storyboards in the next post to show how i want it to look. Using the help from my peers I have decided to look at the works of Steven Spielberg. I have chosen this film maker because he created a transition in some of his films called “Stepping Out of The Shadows”. I think this is a brilliant way to start the film because it sets the mood of the hero and anti-hero.

1 Minute Short Film Maya

Had a perfect Idea for the 1 Minute short. It will involve extensive special effects in Adobe After Effect. Showing the Blood cells, also showing the colour of the eyes changing. I have made the Blood Cells in Maya and rendered them out into a spinning Red and Green Blood Cell. To this i will Create a line of Blood Cells which when i import to After Effect will flow up the arm and into the eye. I know it sounds weird now but after the compositing it will look great. With this post i have included some screen shot of me working on it. I did forget to Take some screenshots whilst i was doing it, so this it just the beginning. I will also post screenshots of the completed Blood Cells. I can not take all the credit for this i did take a few ideas from VideoCopilot. This helped me create the Blood Cells, although he did it in 3D studio i followed it anyway and made it in Maya
